Prelude "Amazing Grace" arr. Peter Hilliard

Tamara Vaughn, trumpet
Karissa Raebel, piano

Welcome  Pastor Tim Klinkenberg

Ringing of the Bell

Invocation

Liturgist:  In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19b)
People:   Amen.

Invocation

Liturgist: Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy.
People:  For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great King over all the earth.
Liturgist:  He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named.
People:  And He put all things under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Liturgist:  God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.
People:  God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. Sing praises to God, sing praises!

Opening Hymn
“A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing” (LSB 493)

verses 1 and 2
A hymn of glory let us sing!
New hymns throughout the world shall ring:
Alleluia, alleluia!
Christ, by a road before untrod,
Ascends unto the throne of God.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

The holy apostolic band
Upon the Mount of Olives stand.
Alleluia, alleluia!
And with His faithful foll’wers see
Their Lord ascend in majesty.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Confession

Liturgist:  Almighty God, you have raised Jesus from the grave and crowned Him Lord of all.
People:  We confess that we have not bowed before Him or acknowledged His rule in our lives. We have gone along with the way of the world and failed to give Him glory. Forgive us and raise us from sin, that we may be Your faithful people, obeying the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ, who rules the world and is head of the church, His body. Amen.

Absolution

Liturgist:  Hear the good news of the gospel: God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which He loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. In Christ, by God’s grace, we are saved. It is my joy, then, as a fellow servant of Christ, to announce to you the forgiveness of all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People:  Amen.

Hymn of Praise “Crown Him with Many Crowns” (LSB 525)

verses 1 and 4
Crown Him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon His throne;
Hark how the heav’nly anthem drowns
All music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing
Of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless king
Through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of life,
Who triumphed o’er the grave
And rose victorious in the strife
For those He came to save.
His glories now we sing,
Who died and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring
And lives that death may die.

Epistle Reading 1 John 5:9-15 NIV

We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Lector:    This is the Word of the Lord.
People:    Thanks be to God.

Anthem “All the Earth with Joy is Sounding”   arr. Walter Pelz

Jubilate Choir

Holy Gospel John 17:11b-19 NIV

11b “Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
Lector:    This is the Gospel of the Lord.
People:    Thanks be to God.

Hymn of the Day
 “Beautiful Savior" (LSB 537)

verses 1, 3 and 4
Beautiful Savior,
King of creation,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I’d love Thee,
Truly I’d serve Thee,
Light of my soul, my joy, my crown.

Fair is the sunshine,
Fair is the moonlight,
Bright the sparkling stars on high;
Jesus shines brighter,
Jesus shines purer
Than all the angels in the sky.

Beautiful Savior,
Lord of the nations,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor,
Praise, adoration
Now and forevermore be Thine!

Message Pastor Tim Klinkenberg

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer Song "What a Friend We Have in Jesus"

verse 1
What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit;
Oh, what needless pain we bear—
All because we do not carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!

Prayers of the Church

Each petition concludes with:
Liturgist:    Lord, in your mercy,
People:   Hear our prayer.

Prayer Song "What a Friend We Have in Jesus"

Mother's Day verse
Lord, we thank You for our mothers;
All their love for us You bless;
You empower them to teach us
Patience, strength, and tenderness.
When we feel that special safety
From a mother’s warm embrace,
Help us, Lord, to see Your kindness
There, reflected in her face.

Gathering of Our Tithes and Offerings

Music at the Offering “And Can It Be?”  arr. Dan Forrest

Jubilate Choir

And can it be, and can it be?
Amazing love, how can it be?

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior's blood?
Died He for me who caused His pain?
For me who Him to death pursued?

Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

He left His Father's throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam's helpless race.

'Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.

No condemnation now I dread,
Jesus and all in Him is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,

Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown through Christ my own.

Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

The Lord's Prayer

Liturgist:     Hear us as we pray in His name and as He has taught us:
People:   Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory
forever and ever. Amen.

Benediction

Liturgist:    The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you.
The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24–26)
People:       Amen.

Closing Hymn Medley

“A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing” (LSB 493)

verse 6
▲ O risen Christ, ascended Lord,
All praise to You let earth accord:
Alleluia, alleluia!
You are, while endless ages run,
With Father and with Spirit one.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

“Crown Him with Many Crowns” (LSB 525)

verse 5
Crown Him the Lord of heav’n,
Enthroned in worlds above,
Crown Him the king to whom is giv’n
The wondrous name of Love.
Crown Him with many crowns
As thrones before Him fall;
Crown Him, ye kings, with many crowns,
For He is king of all.

Father of glory, Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, ascended into the heavens.
He has gone up with a shout and the sound of a trumpet.

Open our lips to sing praises to our King and live confidently in His victory.
Lord, in Your mercy,

LORD Most High, You are awesome, a great King over all the earth.

Stretch our minds and hearts toward Your majestic love.
Lift up our heads and raise our eyes to look forward in the living hope
You have called us in Christ.
Lord, in Your mercy,

Gracious God and heavenly Father, we thank You that You make us new persons in Jesus Christ through grace alone.

We thank You for the Baptism of Zander Paquin, son of Russell and Christina.
Bless and strengthen Zander daily with the gift of Your Holy Spirit.

Unfold to him the riches of Your love. Deepen his faith.
Enable him to live a holy and blameless life until Your kingdom comes.
Lord, in Your mercy,

Everlasting God, You put all things under the feet of Jesus when You seated Him in power at Your right hand.

Bless President Biden, Governor Newsom, Mayor Slater, and all in authority,
who make, administer, and enforce our laws.
We pray for Your righteous justice to those who seek Your face.

Protect our military and first responders,
and all who uphold integrity and maintain order in our world.

Let the Gospel have free course among us,
and be preached to the joy and guidance of Your people.
Lord, in Your mercy,

Eternal God, You have raised Your Son from the dead,
and seated Him at Your right hand in the heavenly places.

…that they may be sustained in their trails and granted His comfort and healing.
Lord, in Your mercy,

Lord Jesus Christ, son of Mary,
we thank You for the women in our congregation and for the gift of mothers.

Give mothers love, joy, wisdom, and delight as they raise their children in the uncertainty of this world. Give mothers supportive husbands, families, and friends as they care for the physical and spiritual growth of their children.

For those who remember their mothers in heaven and for those who remember children who have died and pregnancies that miscarried, we pray for peace and comfort.

For the Moms who decided other parents were the best choice for their babies,
to the Moms who adopted those kids and love them fiercely,
we pray for renewed trust in You and Your gracious guidance.

For those who are debating whether to be a mother or not,
we pray for wisdom and trust in You and for the body of Christ to unite in giving support.

For those who knew they never wanted kids,
and the ways they have contributed to our shared world,
we give you thanks for their love and work.

For those who want children but are experiencing infertility,
we pray for miracles.

For those who hurt due to a poor relationship with their mother
or have been abandoned by their mother,
we pray that You would remind them of their identity in Christ,
who loved us so much that He gave His life for us.

And for all who have experienced sacrificial love from mothers and mother-like figures,
we praise You, O Lord, for placing these godly women into our lives
and for the support that they provided and continue to provide to us.

Bless these, and all women, to continue to model the love of Jesus.

Amen.
